Drape
How a fabric falls under its own weight.

What this graphic shows
Equal fabric samples on identical supports: fluid teal cloth falls close while crisp coral cloth projects outward.
In plain language
Fluid drape hangs in soft folds close to the body; stiff drape stands away and holds a shape. Hold a length by one corner and watch it fall. Drape and weight are independent: a heavy silk can be fluid and a light organza stiff. Use what you see as a first clue, then check the actual cloth before you cut or decide how to care for it.
Look for
- Equal-size samples on the same support
- Depth and shape of folds
- Fabric weight assessed separately
- Changes after permitted pre-treatment
